As long as I can remember, I’ve always been drawn to the sea and fascinated by mermaids. I guess, thats bound to happen, when you grow up in sunny San Diego.
As a child, my favorite movie was Disney’s The Little Mermaid and singing along to the beloved soundtrack and wishing I could have a tail like Ariel. A highlight of my childhood, would be going to the Disneyland Resort in Anaheim and meeting the face character of Ariel and telling her how beautiful she was.
Once I grew older, I broadened my mermaid horizons and began watching films like Splash, Sabrina Down Under, Aquamarine, and Disney’s Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides. Each mermaid was so unique in all these films, that I wasn’t sure who I liked more. Madison from Splash was beautiful and mysterious, while Fin from Sabrina Down Under was territorial and overprotective of her merman brother Barnaby.
Overtime, I slowly began to drift into mermaid books and tv shows…
Some of my favorite mermaid shows are Mako Mermaids, H2O: Just Add Water, and Siren.
For me, personally, its fun to explore the different interpretations of mermaids throughout history and to see the evolution of mermaids today. Mermaids are fascinating creatures and I cannot wait to share of my love of mermaids with all of you on SOS!
